I have a Pioneer 104 and used Prassi Primo to burn. The problem is that the video pauses about every 10-15 secs. I haven't tried burning to an actual DVD-R yet until I can get some other alternatives. I read somewhere that having the (Pioneer) DVD burner with UDMA enabled sometimes caused this and that it should be set to PIO mode. I have it set as the Master on it's own IDE channel with DMA currently enabled in Windows. Do I disable it in BIOS and Windows, what other settings should I try? Is it possible that my player (Apex AD-1200) just doesn't handle DVD-RWs that well?

BTW it was a backup of Evangelion, the total files size was just under 4G so I was able to do a straight copy. PLayed back fine in my PC DVD drive. I added an audio_ts folder althought the guides do not specify for one, just because I've seen it DVDs when exploing the directory.

  3. I don't really have any experience using primo but, why don't you try other recording software to see if that make a difference.....

    just my 2 cents

  4. Trying another burning software couldn't hurt. My first DVD-RW was burned with NERO, and it worked fine in my Sony player, however it will not play at all in my new Toshiba SD4800. I tried Prassi 2.0 to burn it again, and it worked in both players. I recently watched an entire movie burned with Prassi on my Toshiba and it played with very little problems, however the same disc doesn't play very well on my Sony, although it does play. End result, NERO played perfectly on my Sony, but not Toshiba, Prassi plays on both, but with more problems on the Sony. Also, my first movie burned with NERO worked when burned to a DVD-RW but did not work on a DVD-R (possibly bad media). It seems that many factors can influence how the DVD plays, from the burning software to the media used, and of course the DVD player. Try some different combinations and see what works best for you.

Checked the setting and I did not have it set to TAO or to the approriate Joliet file system, that 's probably the reason why I'm going to try again tonight with the correct settings and if that doesn't work I'll try Nero. Thanks guys.

My Apex AD-500w has a hell of a time playing dvd-rw (it plays dvd-r's just fine.) I get erradic behavior sometimes while watching a dvd-rw (random ejections, chapter skips and jerky video.) Your problem sounds player based not burner based. How does the disk play on your computer?

Actually I popped it into my player again just to check again and it played smoothly, no skips, pauses or anything. I tested it in both my AD-1200 and AD-1500, no problem. Apex is a curious wonder machine. When I first got a DVD player it was the 1500 because it was all I could afford and all the reviews raved abbout how it could play anything. I got home all excited, popped in a disc and was VERY disappointed at what I saw. the picture was extremely pixelated and it looked like it had been encoded in 16 color mode. I almost wanted to cry, "This is what I've spent 8mos looking forward too??!!!!." So I settled for using DVDs only. Tossed in movie I bought to "break in" my DVD player and enjoyed (If you ever have the chance to watch Princess Mononoke please do so ). Later on I tossed in another VCD and it played perfectly. Color and image was VCR quality (Hadn't had the chance to test other encoding formats since I only had my PC ), and it played beautifully. Thinking it was a fluke I spent the rest of the evening testing different VCDs and the all played great!
