I am trying to encode some home videos into xSVCD using TMPGEnc 2.53..... but the final results doesn't look good when playing.
My source is DV NTSC, I am using TMPGEnc 2.53 720x480 CQ 75, max bitrate 4500, slow (high quality)..... My player is an Apex AD1500 (hacked). I am using VCDEasy 1.12 to create the image and Nero to burn it.
While the mpeg file looks pretty good on the PC, when trying the DVd player it looks awful. A lot of pixels, plus high motion scenes are blurry.... I thought the bit rate is low, but it looks OK in the PC.....
I tried using the same parameters, same source but the frame size at 480x480...... the results are almost the same. I was expecting even the normal SVCD to look fine, but my encoding has 60% higher bitrate......
What am I doing wrong??? By the way, xVCD at 2300 CBR look great.
Thanks
Alex

Its possible your player is having a problem with the max bitrate. While it looks like that player can handle that high a max bitrate, it is nearly double SVCD standard. You may want to try a sample encode at 2500 max bitrate to see if the problems go away. If this works you can bump up the bitrate until you start to have problems.

Thanks, I will try it...... but I am getting so mad. According to the database, the player cab suppport up to 8000 kb/sec in SVCD.
