Does anyone know of any players that are coming out in the near future that will support DivX? If so, which ones and what the best guess on ETA?
Thanks.

Kiss (no not the band) is releasing a dvd player which supports just about everything except divx 3.11, for obvious reasons. It should be released any day now.

divx 3.11 was the original divx codec that was released freely on the internet, and which started the whole divx bootleg movie scene. The codec was made by microsoft and a couple guys basically hacked it so that it could be used for encoding. Even if you were encoding your own original non-copywritten material it was still illegal because encoding using the codec was inherantly illegal since microsoft never gave permission for this to anyone. Think of it like driving the speed limit in a stolen car.
All the divx codecs that followed were hand written by people and either released publicly or sold under licence. So the bootleg movies you download now are obviously illegal but the codec itself is ok to use. So this is like speeding in your own car. -
Sounds great! Thanks for all of the info everyone! Now to just sit back and wait for news of the shipping product...
