  1. hey guys,

i don't really look over my rips completely unless i wanna watch it afterwards. i've recently seen that some ppl post that there were movies in which required subs (i.e. when foreign language is spoken) for small segments of the movie is softcoded in the original dvd, rather than hardcoded into the video itself.

i never bothered to find out if these required subs (which i think should be hardcoded) were in fact hardcoded, or in a separate subtitle stream in the actual dvd.

so far, i've come across traffic and joy luck club that did this. i saw in another post that star wars ep1 has this too. someone mentioned the mummy, but i think the subs were hardcoded in that movie.

anywayz, i just wanted to know if other ppl have run across movies where required subtitles were not hardcoded, but in separate subtitle stream so i can make sure that i include the subs in my own rips.

please post any movies that had this happen!

If UR talking about rips from DVD's, LOTS of subs that you would think are hard-coded aren't.

While there are subtitle streams, for languages and such, that can be authored to DVD that the end user can decide to switch ON or OFF, there can ALSO be FORCED subtitles, that come on whether you want them or not, and no matter which language you have set your preference for. Yet, they are still separate Subtitle streams-NOT hardcoded.

You guys (and gals) may have been missing alot that you wanted.

SVCD's have separate subs, too. There is no mechanism there for specifying that they be "FORCED", so all can be switchable.

Sorry, I can't give you a list. I don't usually rip. Most all my stuff is original.
