    All,

    Hope somebody knows what the hell I'm doing wrong here. I have, after much messing around & wasted hours, managed to sort out a reliable high quality rip & VCD convert method with which I am very happy. I have, however, 2 questions I need answering to stop me throwing this heap of junk out of the window:

    (1) Why is it that using any of the available VOB to AVI converters, inc. Flask & DVD2AVI, I can open individual ripped VOB files matching the original DVD size & convert them fine but when I merge the VOB files into one large file on ripping, I can not get a converter to process them? All I get is either the program not responding or it closing down completely !!
    I ask as when I come to burn the final VCD I get glitches between each of the idividual segments. I have tried all sorts of MPEG joiners & editors but can not get the join perfect.

    (2) Is it possible to produce a VCD for an entire movie on just one CDR. with high quality (better than VHS) output ??

    FYI - my current process for ripping goes something like:

    cladDVD (VOB rip - approx 20mins) -->-- FlaskMPEG v0.6 (total avi size approx. 35-40GB ~ 80-100mins) -->-- Adobe Premier 6.0 w/ Panasonic Pro Plugin (total MPEG-1 size 1.2-1.4GB ~ 6-7 hours) -->-- Nero (2 VCDs)

    The final result is great with a quality level way above VHS but a little under original DVD. When recorded to VHS you can not tell it apart from the original. If only someone can help me get rid of those glitches between VOB's.........

    TIA, first-time poster willing to help/discuss/speculate etc

  4. i make xvcd's that fit onto one cdr using dvddecrypter, dvd2avi and tmpgenc. i then burn with nero. the most you can get onto one disc with acceptable quality is around 2 hours. theres a guide on this site that'll tell you how to create a one disc template for tmpgenc. if you use this template and split the film into two then the bitrate will go way up and so will the quality
