Marcovision
It's a form of copy protection. Comes in many forms as well like, brightness fluctuation, vertical sync hold. VHS tapes and DVD have it on them. All new VCR have a circuit to detect it and prevent you from copying the movie.May the force be with you. -
If you rip a dvd, the macrovision is removed. There are some DVD players that you can hack to remove macrovision from their outputs if you want to capture analog outputs.
You can also use a "video stabilizer" which are fairly inexpensive ($50). These can be battery operated and you just put them inline with the composite video signal. These will work with DVD and VHS players.
