I own the Hong Kong DVD release of this film and was surprised to see that it is being released domestically in the US on Aug 24. I prefer the extended version which is about 10 minutes longer. It's accessible on the HK version by selecting the extended version thru the menus. The catch is that you have to press play/enter to access those scenes when you see a soccer player on the top, right corner. Does anyone here know if the US DVD will have the extended scenes seamlessly as part of the film? If it does, I'm going to have to double dip and purchase it again.

    Thanks

I doubt it. I would buy any asian movie from Miramax. Hero is a perfect example of this. They spent all that time with the movie and kept saying were releasing it this day, no this day, no that. They're finally releasing it. I already have the extended DVD (just in time, Miramax is trying to shut down sites that offer the movie from China). Plus, the ads for it are horrible.
    Might have spoilers
They give away the whole story. You're supposed to believe that Nameless is actually a loyal citizen of China. As he tells the story of how he defeated the assassins, the king starts unravelling the truth. It turns out he is actually a citizen of Zhao (not sure if thats it, I got to see to make sure) and he is back for revenge.
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

    yoda313,

It doesn't matter if you're a soccer fan or not. At least rent it. If not, you're passing up on a really funny movie.

Well I haven't seen this but know of its cult status. Its not really just a soccer movie though is it? I saw some previews for it playing on display at Circuit City (if there's no current US release then I don't know why they were playing it) and it looked like more of a martial arts spoof, which just happened to take place on the soccer field. Some of the kicks they did were pretty incredible.

That's right. It's Kung Fu meets soccer. This movie took me completely by surprise. It's hilarious slap stick comedy at its best. The DVD will have the butchered US version and the original HK version. You owe it to yourself to at least watch it. If you're a Three Stooges fan, you're bound to like this.

  8. Its for sure not a soccer movie. Its more than good enough, even if the humor can be too corny now and then, and its not exactly a realistic movie.
Talking about Kung Fu movies, i heard Ong-Bak has some very good fighting scenes. Its made in Thailand i think. Anyone seen it? Worth seeing?

As for Miramax most of the asian movies it releases in the USA are edited and much footage ends up on the cutting room floor. They shorten the movie and sometimes change the original soundtracks. Just like all those Jet Li movies they released in the USA the last few years. Those movies were released years before in Asia then released here in the USA all edited and shorten. Go figure eh! Miramax bought the rights to release SHAW BROTHERS movies in the USA from CELESTIAL. I can imagine what they'll do to those movies like english dubbing! Yuk!

As for Shaolin Soccer it's a great movie!
