In Tmpgenc, when encoding a movie as DVD (PAL), why is the resolution for MPEG 2 352 x 576? Normally a picture is wider than it is high. I am assuming that when you author it and burn it to DVD it gets changed or does the DVD player do something to the picture to make it wider when decoding it. This is not an important question or problem, I am just trying to understand the logic involved.
Thanks.

You are using the default TMPGenc dvd (pal) template? Because it should be 720x576. 352x576 is also a compliant pal resolution for DVD but it is not the full D-1 resolution that commercial dvds use.
Perhaps you accidentally adjusted the template and then saved over the old one, or maybe an incorrect template was just released with your version of TMPGenc. In any case the correct resolution for that template is 720x576, -
The version of Tmpgenc I downloaded only seems to have templates with the non standard resolutions. A. where can I get the correct templates for standard DVD, VCD and SVCD and B. can I load these templates so that they are accessible through not only the 'load' button but also in the wizard so I can batch encode multiple .avi files (I have not worked out how to do this outside of the wizard and the wizard uses the default templates).
