  1. Bit of a long winded one this..... so please be patient !

Got my Nicam VCR hooked up to the Panasonic E20 (Front Panel) using the RCA vid-in & Audio-in L&R...... I'm recording straight to RAM Disc and then editing the whole thing on the PC (DVDR)
I Copy the '.VOR' file across to the HDD and rename the extension to '.VOB' so DVD2AVI will find it. I then set the various clips I want and end up with muliple '.d2v' files + audio to match........ (Follow me so far?)

Now, Im happy with all the above.... and all's well until I re-encode with TMPGenc....... my finished Mpeg2 file appears to flicker aound fast moving areas of the video footage...... I have set the motion precision search at its highest but to no avail ! - If anyone has got any ideas of how to solve this I would be eternaly grateful.....

p.s - Viewing the recorded RAM DISC on the PANASONIC... all is fine!
    no Flicker what-so-ever.

    Thanks,

    Paul ( UK )

  2. What version of TMPGEnc you are using? Did you let TMPGEnc to predict fields? (Field A or Field B). What Decoder did you use to play back the MPEG2? What template did you use on the TMPGEnc? Did you use Interlace or non-interlace on the template?

  3. Not to sure what you mean by 'Predict fields' ?
    I have used Mpeg2 templates (Full D1 / Half D1)
    I am using TMPGenc V.2.51
And yes Im encoding with Interlace.
i have tried loads of Players (All with the same result)

  4. IF you use the wizard, it will automatically predict the field of your input file, but since I notice you are using d2v I guess it will not do that. I was thinking your field orders may be wrong. Usually when you capture your AVI say from ATI card, its field order is A and if it is DV the field B will be use. If you reverse the field order when you encode it, you will notice flickers (like interlace) when you encounter motions.

Since you converted to AVI, it maybe the field order got reversed. Also check your settings on the DVD2AVI, what were your settings on the DVD2AVI?, i.e. 30fps? 24fps? etc.

Check the link below on the last message:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=338681&highlight=field+order#338681

So, check your MPEG2 template and see what the Field order setting was, if it was set at Field A, then change it to Field B and encode it for a few minute and see if that will fix the problem.

Another thought is to convert them to non-interlace and test your encoding and see if the problem disappear.

  5. Tom,

    I think you've cracked it.... in a round-a-bout way......
I selected the option in TMPGenc settings to 'de-interlace' and simply selected the 'EVEN FIELD'....... did a test encode and all is well now.

Thanks for your help & input..... very much appreciated
