I recently purchased the Panasonic DMR-HS2 DVD Video Recorder and am very happy with it except for one unusual problem. The factory setting for brightness is set too high with the result being the picture output to my Mitsubushi HDTV (via component jacks) is somewhat washed out. I have gone into the video settings of the DMR-HS2 to try to adjust the brightness but suprisingly I found that I can only increase the brightness, not decrease it. For example the setting range for contrast and color saturation is from -7 to +7, sharpness is from -6 to +6, but brightness is from 0 to +15 (the user manual confirms this also)! I don't get it. The only way I can compensate for this overly bright and washed out picture is by reducing the brightness level on my monitor. All of the other components attached to the monitor such as Pioneer DVD player, JVC VCR's, etc. look fine. If I do a split screen view of the DMR-HS2 along with another component or say, a TV broadcast, all of the video is normal looking except for the DMR-HS2, which has washed out looking color and blacks that are on the gray side. I don't know if my unit is out of adjustment from the factory or all the DMR-HS2's have this problem. I'm trying to figure out if I should exchange my unit or not. Has anyone noticed this problem and, if so, is there any fix for it?
