  1. I am trying to re-encode the mpeg2 file from an NTSC DVD that has been poorly telecined. The DVD frame rate is, of course, 29.97 fps and I would like to return it to 23.976 which it presumably was before telecining. DVD2AVI reports the source as 100% NTSC at 29.97 fps, so I cannot use force film. I have looked at each frame and I find that it consists of 4 interlaced frames followed by 2 progressive frames.

Can such a source be run through Avisynth and returned to the original 23.976 progressive frame rate? I have tried different combinations of Avisynth scripts and the Decomb filter pack but about all I can do is to deinterlace the source while keeping it at 29.97 fps. Can anyone suggest an Avisynth script to solve this problem? Thanks

    4 progressive or 3 progressive?

    3 progressive 2 interlaced = Telecine
    4 progressive 2 interlaced = ??? PAL conversion ?

    What is the video of?

  3. It is a 1939 film, The Mikado. When I load the Avisynth script into VirtualDub and look at each frame it is very clearly 4 interlaced followed by 2 progessive. I know that sounds odd, but that is the way it is. Can it be inverse telecined or should I just deinterlace the whole movie and then re-encode it?

You may want to give decomb.dll ( avisynth ) telecide a try. At that point if their are still interlaced frames try a simple de-interlace.

    Cheers.
