  1. This is the first time I've used this software,for some reason when I open the avi file I want to convert I get the message can't open or unsupported.My windows media player plays it fine so I presume I've got all the codecs I need.Please help thanks.

    Probably not. Install the Nimo codec pack, then try again.

    WMP may use another codec to playback, but when it comes to converting or editing you need the right one.

    The Nimo codec pack (Full) has spy wear so try the lite version, or run Adawear after you install them.

    Also check this in TMPGEnc
    Select options > environmental settings
    click the VFAPI plug-in tab
    right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4
