  1. I was just reading the comparison of the converters, but in all which one is the best to use?

I had started using Vegas Video 3.0 with main concept, i just dropped the vob files in vegas video and have it render into a svcd with the template thats already there. I can change some of the settings, but i normally just leave everything to default.

    Audio: 224 kbps, 44,100 Hz, Layer 2
    Video: 29.97 fps, 480x480
Use this setting to create an NTSC SVCD-compliant MPEG-2 file.

Is there anything that i can do to improve on this? Should i change the video sizes to something smaller?

I like to use one thing and stick with it, but i had been readin that people are beginning to use CCE more. I had problems with freezing with that in the past so i stopped using it.

Also, whenever i capture from vhs to my ati video card i normally just split the file in two, should i do additional conversion on that file? (its already mpeg2).

Can someone shed some light on these issues for me please.

p.s. i looked, but i could not find a tutorial on using CCE

    Thanks

  2. Which is the best is up to you? CCE is best for 3-pass VBR and its speed. TMPGEnc is best for easiness, popularity, and your wallet (free version). And also others which I've never tired.

About mpeg2/SVCD setting when encode, i'd suggest you to try
    352x480 (as known for CVD)
    framerate at 23.976 with 3:2pulldown
bitrate is up to you if you don't care about fileszie then go with the highest setting which is "2520" you can use CBR or 2-pass VBR for this.
    audio is up to you.

About CCE tut, you might be able to find one on doom9.
