  1. I HAVE A BIG PROBLEM>..its been months and still i am tryuing to figure it out. I just got Nimo codec package before i had some other device as a divx codec.

I have about 100 movies on cdr as data files.
When i play the movie from the cdr it plays for couple of secs or souple of mins and says UNSPECFIED ERROR?? and i ruuuun it several times and finally when i get it to play..it plays for 10 mins and stops. and says the same thing. OR it just freezes.

Some of my movies that are cdr wont go back to my hard drive becasue of the read only property on it. HOW DO I REMOVE IT>>?? I have tried the obvious..left clcking propertites and tried to remove it manually..it says cannot change file. I have even tries certain commands but i really dont know what i am supposed to be doing..

I thought Nimo was the best codec package..why did not fix my prob??
I have a phillips cd writer+Nimo codec package
If someone with experience could help that would be awesome.
    THANKS TO ALL.

  2. I think your problem is about your CD/DVD-rom drive and your CDRs media. First you should try to copy all files from cdr to hard drive and play from hard-drive instead. If you still cannot copy files, then you have bad discs. I'd also suggest you to try to copy from CD burnner to hdd.
Note: if you haven't close your cdrs when you burnt, try to close it first to see if it can read.

If you still cannot copy file by any ways then you have to create image file (ISO) using CDRwin or any software and then extract image file with ISObuster.

First of all, you should know exactly what codec's were used, and know if you have the correct codec's installed. Installing a codec pack in the hope it has everything is fine, provided the pack includes the codec that's needed The latest version of Nimo, has spywear so I have stopped recommending it, instead search Kaza for the KJ codec pack

Vdub > file > file info (Find out what codec is used)

    Vdub
Video > compression (See what codecs you got)

As for playback of DivX movies, since they are much more compressed, your CD ROM needs to be quite new and working 100%, if you have had it a year or more, it may start giving read problems, this can also be seen by trying to copy a file, but failing.

Oh and all files on a CDROM will be read only, you cannot change that !!!! how can you write to a cd rom like you would a hard drive ? and change its contents ! read only to read/write is not possible on a CDR the way your doing it.

What brand of disks did you use ? cheap quality ones ?, then forget it.... Try them in someone else's drive, or in a writer.

Finally, try loading one of the AVI's from a disk into Vdub, then do this

    Vdub, load AVI from CDR

    Video > direct stream copy
    Audio > direct stream copy
    SAVE AVI
    C:\new.avi

That will stream a copy from the disk to your hard drive, if you get problems with this, those disks are of no use to you.

  5. I am having a similar problem.

I used Vdub to determine the codec [Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3].

Initially I did not check Compression to see what codecs I had installed.

I split the AVI file into so I could burn SVCD. I saved both parts (1 and 2).

I can play both parts (AVI files) using WMP.

I am now working with part 1 and extracted the audio to a WAV file.

I am encoding using TMPGenc. I previewed the file and the video looks great but no audio. I can play the extracted audio using WMP.

Is the reason I cannot hear the audio under the TMPGenc preview because I need the [Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3] codec? Or does the audio not play on the preview during encoding?

Note, when I load the part1 AVI file into vdub, it shows PCM uncompressed. As I stated above, part1 AVI plays video and audio perfect.

    Thanks

I'm using the same version that came on the Windows 98SE disk dont want anything fancy, just want to see the video !

As long as you have the codec's you can play the video. Have you tried to load one into Vdub ?

    Check your codec's
Audio > Compression > codec list

However, Audio does not play under preview !! Encode a little and test.

Or check the audio with TMPGEnc > Setting > Audio > Use Audio edit > Setting > Play
