What setting should I use to encode a 600 meg divx.avi movie to mpeg1 so I can get the movie on 2 discs through TMPGEnc. without losing too much quality???? Thanks very much.

A recommendation. Encode to SVCD (MPEG-2)
resolution 480x480/576, rate control mode: VBR 2pass
The average bitrate depends on the time of the movie. Use FitCD to calculate the bitrate to fit your movie on 2 CDs. Min rate 500, max 2500. The max bitrate depends on your DVD player's properties.
If you use TMPGEnc set the motion search precision to High Quality.
Also you may play around with the filters .
