    36-40 " tv....

CVD will show fewer artifacts, will have the fluidity of DVD ( two frames assuming you have fluid source ) and have the softness of VCD.

SVCD is a btter match for a large TV. Assuming it's not an action movie and you get a good encode.

Oh... and yes... quality in quality out, garbage in garbage out.

It's also going to loose quality in the conversion, if you don't think it can handle it just go VCD and hope it comes out OK.

    mol3000:

Just pick the format (DVD, SVCD, CVD, VCD) that closely matches the resolution of your AVI file. Selecting a higher resolution format will not improve the quality. The reason you've heard CVD mentioned as a good alternative is because the resolution is a legal DVD res., so if you encode with the audio at 48khz than the movie is sure to play in any player on DVDR media.

For more specs on the formats, see the links to the left.

If in Windows, right-click on the file and select Properties, then the Summary (WinXP) or Details (Win98) tab.
