  1. I'm trying to convert a 24fps anime divx file to SVCD using Tmpgenc but I'm not sure about what is the best format to use. Should I use Pal or NTSC or NTSC film? What should I set the frame rate at, should I go with the standard for each format or set the frame rate to 24? Also what encoding mode should I use? Sorry for all the questions but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

24fps is about right for NTSCFilm. You need to leave the frame rate at the standard. What encoding mode you use is up to you, I usually use 2-pass VBR for SVCD and use a bitrate calculator to exactly fill a CD.

Are you sure NTSCFilm wont cause any "jerky" playback? Wouldn't encoding to NTSCFilm delete a couple of frames every few seconds thus leading to jerky playback? By encoding mode I don't mean bitrate or rate control but the way the movie is coded for output i.e. interlace, non-interlace, 3:2 pulldown etc.

It won't cause jerkyness. 24fps is so close to 23.976fps that the difference is negligable. You may want to click the the "do not framerate conversion" on the advanced tab. This makes TMPGenc actually adjust the speed, rather than duplicate/decimate frames to change the fps. This is how all fps conversions should be done and prevent the jerkyness you describe. This, however, can cause desync if you do not properly convert the audio as well, but again the difference in your case is so small that it shouldn't make any difference.

All divx are progressive. So on the advanced tab you would always set the source as being progressive when using divx. You would also set the source aspect ratio to 1:1 VGA.

As for your output (video tab), it needs to be set to 3:2 pulldown while playback but all of this is taken care of if you just use the ntscfilm svcd template.
