  1. Is used SmartRipper to get the main video as m2v from DVD. After that i have to reduce the size to fit on a DVD-R. I use TMPGEnc to reencode.
But if i open the original m2v file TMPGEnc tells me it's 1:39:53 in length. DVDMaestro tells the correct length 1:46:09.

The movie use PAL 25fps, 2.35:1 , anamorphic widescreen, region 2.

So can anybody tell me where the problem is?

    Thx.

  3. I'm running WinXP on NTFS (5.0?) and DVD Maestro know the right length.

Seems to me that there are not really 25fps within the origial movie. On the other hand PAL should have 25fps. Is there a option in a m2v stream, which tells the player to use a different framerate?

Thought: If the original is coded with 23.52 fps and the player would extend this to 25fps (possible?) than if TMPGEnc assume 25fps it results to 99.53min. (5993s*25fps = 6369s*23.52fps = 149825 frames)

    Any other ideas?

    Ronald.

  4. another effect. I open the m2v file with m2-edit. Than while the index-file is generated, m2-edit counts up to 105%.

it is most llikly a film source @ 24 fps and different programs are reading the time different ..

tmpgenc gets the time from the number of frames x the frame rate

maestro gets the time from the embedded time code in the video ...

    both are accually correct.

its the 1:01 diff between 24fps and 25fps

m2edit pro doesnt have the most exact - in fact sometimes way off (as does mpeg-vcr, which is worse) reading of time in a movie ..

vitek does a good job of it ...

blade and vegas video are highly good at it ..

I think you are right. But I'm a newbie on this topic and need more help. Knowing the problem doesn't solve it. I just transcode the file with m2-edit with hope it magicly bring tmpgenc to work. I looked for the suggested progs but for instance 'vegas video' is commercial and difficult to find . (blade seams to be a audio-encoder?)

In fact i think tmpgenc AND maestro cannot both be right. If tmpgenc gets the time like you describe, it comes with the wrong assumption of 25fps .

At last I have to reduce the video bit rate, not more. Can anybody guide me.

blade is from In-Sync and is a comercial product ..

i kinda got lost in this thread on why this is a problem in the first place even though different programs are reporting different times (you should work with DF and NDF time code in if you think this is a problem) ..

is your audio out of sync or something?

btw AFAK -- m2 edit pro doesnt make compiant mpeg file for dvd - though it can cut ok i guess. i had better luck with the older version of it than version now .. but not the most stable program (written in java i think) ...

  8. Ok, i think it's done. After transcode with m2-edit, tmpgenc knows the right time. I will now reduce the bitrate.

    Thx for the help.
