  1. I am trying to do Metropolis but Nero tells me that I am 147mb oversize.

I have already removed all the extra languages and removed all sub-titles from the movie.

I really don't want to remux and deal with the whole sit back and wait 24 hours just to resize a DVD movie that is only 147mb to big

The first 5 minutes of VOB01_1 is all the logos for the many different companies that where part of the movie. I am sure that if I can remove all the logos from the first VOB and then remove the credits from the last VOB then I will have no problems burning the DVD-R but I have never before had to edit a VOB file

Plus I don't want to split this DVD into 2 DVD-Rs just for 147MBs.

Could someone please tell me how do I trim/crop the VOB files? Or any other way that I could remove 147MBs from a DVD Rip that would not involve a 24-hour to 36-hour waiting period?

One last question... If I have to make the movie under 4.5GB to burn on a single layer DVD-R then how in the world is it possible for the original single layer DVD movie being over 6GB in size?

Thanks for any and all help!

I dont have a DVD burner, so I wont pretend to know everything about DVD burning....but maybe you know enough that what I say will help...because I know that if you change a VOB then the associated files must be edited..right? (info file...ect)

Now that said..Most editing soft ware will do this....my version of TMPG will do simple edits on VOB files (without re-encoding)...but your mpeg2 must not have expired ...or must be reset...because for lack of a better explanation a vob is mpeg2...use the MPEG tools part of TMPG, cut and join.

If the movie was over 6gb then the disc was not single layer. You just thought it was.

I've used Rempeg to trancode movies. A two hour movie took about 4 hours. I'm using an XP1600 CPU. Why would you take 24-36 hours?

  4. TMPG does work with the VOB files, and with cutting out the logos and the ending credits, the movie size is now down to 4.2GB but the problem is that after I worked on the first and last VOB, they no longer have audio. Did I do something wrong? The other VOBs have audio but the ones that I worked on with Tmpg lost all audio

I never used Rempeg before so I am not sure on that but if it only takes a few hours then that would be fine with me. It's just that every guide I see in regards to remuxing states that it takes 24 to 36 hours. I will see if I can find a guide on rempeg and give it a try

    Thanks for the help

I have the same problem with Tmpeg,no audio when I use merge&cut. I can only tell you my expierence with Rempeg. You'll also need Ifoedit to remux the transcode. You might want to consider only transcoding one of the vob's.

  7. My experience with a 2hr movie using RMpeg on a 1.1Ghz chip is about 9 hours. Perfect to setup to run before you go to bed.

ok, it's complicated yes, but it works and works the best, go through this guide, do it 100 times if you have to, but learn it. http://www.doom9.org/mpg/ifoedit-cce.htm after that you will be able to do just about any movie, this does not include the matrix =) keeping the movie and extras is not a problem, just have to learn how

Just a quick question. Can you really only transcode one vob and remux it back with Ifoedit? I would really like to transcode the last vob file, in my case VTS_01_6.VOB. Being the last and smallest vob I figured I wuld then only have a small bit that was poorer quality. but, the queston is how. I assume I create a cffl file for Rempeg2 but only put my last vob on the list. But how do I then remux with Ifoedit. Won't it put the video and the begining and then the rest of the movie would have nothing? Thanks for your help.

How about re-encoding the audio only ?
I don't own a DVD burner yet but have been have been trying various methods of converting DVDs for when I do.
I recently ripped Monsters Inc and converted it to VCD but found that the movie VOBs would have been a couple of hundred meg to big for a DVD-R.
So, using Smartripper, I extracted the video to one .m2v and the audio to a .wav file.
I encoded the .wav file to MPEG audio with TMPGEnc and this reduced it from about 900MB to about 200MB then multiplexed the .m2v and .mp2 files to produce a new MPEG2 file.
The whole process took under an hour and the result was a file with exaclty the same video as the original DVD coming within the max for DVD-R capacity in Nero.
Ulead Movie Factory accepted it for authoring.

  12. I suppose reencoding the audio would work fine but I really want to keep DD5.1. I am just 300megs too big so I really only wanted to shrink the video of the last vob. I was able to shrink the first video vob file and remux with Ifoedit. It seems to work great and now I am right at my target size.
