  1. Hi
Every svcd disc I burn has the same problem when playing in my Philips 633 DVD Player, It freezes every few seconds for a split second. I use Nero to burn the discs and have tried unbranded/branded disc's, different writing speeds and CDRW all with the same result. I know my dvd player
is suppose to to be able to play svcd's. It plays vcd's burnt the same way no problem. I also tried Wincd to burn the disc's with the same result.
Last night I demultiplex one in tmpgenc and burnt it without the sound the same way and it played perfectly all the way through without freezing.

Has anyone else had the same problem and managed to find a answer to make the svcd's play without freezing. Any help or suggestions would be welcomed.

    Thanks Ken.

  2. Philips DVD players have a problem with skipping/pausing due
to audio issues. No solution exists I'm afraid, unless you want
to try the "panasonic" trick of rewriting the mpeg header and
    make a xVCD

  3. I was afraid of that answer, i'll try any way to get them to play, Can i find out how to write the xvcd header on VCDhelp somewhere?

    Thanks for Answering

  4. Have just tried that trick and if anything it seemed to make things worst, looks like i'm stuck with either buying another dvd player or re encoding them to vcd's and suffering on quality.

    Thanks for trying to help

  5. I have a JVC XV-S300 BK DVD player. It always skips and freezes. Do those have the same audio issues?

No it is a different problem but with a similar result. The XV-S300BK will not play SVCD's that you burn yourself on either CDR or CDRW but will play commercial ones (ie silver) wheras the Phillips won't play either.

  7. Ken.T,

sorry for the bad news but the Phillips is great for hooking up
surround and enjoying DVD to the max so don't thow it out.
Get a cheap Asian unit just for SVCD and video experiments.

In fact getting two units is the better thing to do. If you play
everything on your cheap "play anything" asian player it will
die quickly. Having one brand name and one elcheapo and
leaving DVD's to the brand name will extend the life of
    both units.

Thanks for the reply! Do you have any other players that you would recommend I try out? I have looked through the compatability guide, but pretty much all of the reviews are mixed. If you know of a reasonably priced (and preferably readily available in the US) unit that you have heard nothing but good things about in reference to playing SVCDs and VCDs, please let me know. Thanks!
