    Hi

I have d/l an avi of lilo & stitch. If I use TMPGenc to encode it to PAL (mpg), it goes fine up until the point I use Nero to burn it? Does Nero always try to encode it again when you burn as VCD, or should I be burning it as something else. Even though I've clipped the file to less than 80 mins it still says that the file is too big (even though i'm using the settings for one-disc encode, which I thought sorted it all out for you!!)

I've even tried letting Nero encode the avi to vcd, but it still says the file is too big at 79mins and 230mb. Can someone please point me in the right direction

    many thanks

Nero always try to encode it again

Meaning you have not made it compliant, and you have told Nero to make it compliant (It will re-encode to VCD spec).

You don't say how big the file is 79mins and 230mb Which ? it can't be 230Mb at 79 Min for a mpeg 1, is that the DivX size ?

TMPGEnc > Load VCD template > START > Split file for 2 disks if over 80 Min

  3. uncheck "make standard complient vcd" in Nero.
This will prevent it from trying to re-encode the file.

If you do this, you could end up with a VCD that wont play !, and since this person is new to this, you dont know what his DVD player can play and what it wont play.

  5. Well that is the only way for Nero to not re-encode the file.
You know a better way post it then.
You should never let nero encode the file.
    It does a shitty job.

Whenever I use TMPGEnc to encode an avi to VCD format I always
choose the NTSC format (352x240) After it is done and I go to burn it
with Nero 5.5.9.0 it never asks me to re-encode it, it just burns away.

I already did post a better way
TMPGEnc > Load VCD template > START > Split file for 2 disks if over 80 Min

As said above, if you know your DVD play will play XVCD then that's just fine, because that is what you will be making. But if you don't know, then its always best to use the basic VCD template and change nothing.

The warning Nero gives, is there for a good reason, I agree that Nero is rubbish at converting, at that stage you should quit and fix the problem with TMPGEnc..
