I'm thinking of buying a laptop and would apprecite any help before buying one.
I usually use Smartripper to rip DVDs and DVD2AVI to get the .d2v and then TMPGEnc to encode to VCD and watch it on my TV. I keep it at 29.976 fps and interlaced so it'll look smooth on TV. If I ever want to watch something on my PC monitor then I use Force Film and get it to 23.976 otherwise I'll get interlace "lines" all over. My question is that does laptop screen or flat panel screen display the same way as the monitor screen? What will happen if I play my 29.976 interlaced VCD on it? Will show "lines" like on the monitor?![]()
If the laptop display won't support interlaced then I would have to encode two versions in the future to play one on TV, and bring the other one with my laptop on trips. Any helps would be appreciated.

all pc software mpeg players change the interlace to progressive. or they should .. use windvd or powerdvd .. even media player will do so ..

I think I remeber this discussion..
Twen: You DVD player only support 29.97 right? It makes a big diffrence as you should always be encoding DVD ( 99.99% of the time ) with 23.976 and 3:2 pulldown. -
Yes, LCD and PC monitors are both progessive and 29.97 will probably show "lines"

Here you are, Snowmoon, wonder where have you been. Your last post answered my question - LCD is Progressive. Thanks again.
We have not finished our last round of conversation yet (at least I have not). Care to continue? http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=112399
