  1. Hi All,

First of all I want to thank all of you posters in helping me out so many times....

I have a problem with burning DVD-R's with any package. The strange thing about it is that this problem only occurs with Windows 2000 or XP. I have a Dual boot system and on Win98 the DVD Writer performs like a charm.

I read some articles about people having the same prob but no solution. I tried changing the drive to Multiword DMA mode 0,1,2 en PIO Mode 4. Because I read PIO mode 4 is the safest to use I keep it on this value even changed the BIOS settings.

I installed the latest ASPI drivers from adaptec and have no problems with the drive detected. It reads very good with DVD decryptor no probs at all.

It's only writing. It gives a communication failure after 800 KBytes written as wel in simulating as in real burning.

I was wondering if anyone can help me with this as I am desperate. I can of course toast with Win98 but I don't feel like making huge projects on XP or 2000 and then return to Win98 to burn teh DVD.....

Seems more peeps have the same prob on an Athlon Based system.

Thanks in advance for you help....

  2. I had to use a 40-pin ribbon cable in PIO-4 to get mine to work consistently.
It still writes a whole DVD in 30 minutes so I'm happy. Pioneer's service
department sucks! They gave me a different fix each time I called. This
forum is all I really needed. Good luck!

  3. I have an Athlon-based system and I have no problems burning under WinXP.
Maybe you should try to update the Bios on your Mobo first? If your system is a Via-based system, have you tried installing the Via 4 in 1 drivers? Have you applied SP1 for WinXP and see if that helps? What is the drive set to on your Mobo? (I.E.--MASTER?SLAVE?, Primary or Secondary Controller?)
