  1. is there any new protection against riping dvd`s?, cause i have just installed a new liteon 163d dvd-rom and now when i rip a dvd on it and try to play it back i can not get aby sound from it, i have tryed playing it on a software player and a hardware play and still no sound, can anyone help with this prob or has anyone else have the same prob with this drive?

  2. I've got the same drive, but sound works fine for me. Are you trying to play back the VOB files themselves or have you compressed them to another format?

  3. i`m playing back the vob files them selfs using a sigma designs Xcard dvd decoder and powerDVD, 1 dvd i riped played back with sound but the other 3 i riped have no sound at all, i have the new bios installed on my drive to if that helps and i have used smartripper and dvddecrypter to rip the dvd`s using there default settings

  4. Hmm the only thing I can tell you is that I seriously doubt it is the DVDROM itself causing this problem, and the fact that you got one of your rips to play back properly suggests this as well. I would go back and double check all of your software settings in the ripping software, as well as double checking that all necessary codecs and drivers are installed.

    Also you might try disabling your DVD decoder under device manager, test playback through strictly software means, then re-enable it. I am using a Radeon 8500 for hardware decoding, so this seems like the biggest hardware variable involved in MPEG decoding between our two setups.

    These are only suggestions, tho, without more detailed information on exactly how you ripped these VOBs, I'm shooting in the dark.
