I got a new Pioneer 104/A04 today and have somewhat of a dilema as to where to put it. I currently have a 80GB(7200), 30GB(5400), 30GB(7200) & a 40x CDRW drives. What should I take out? And what IDE channel should I use for best results with the DVR?
Leening towards taking out the 5400 rmp 30GB but it seems like such a waste.

    Give me your opinions.

    What would you do?

Why not Firewire that sucker. Saves you the time of opening that silly box (I am of course assuming you have a FW card installed). If not install one. They are as easy as cheese.

you can search the web for others or go to your local pc shop. if you check my specks you'll see that i use one and a lot of other people do to sinse if you don't need it, just unplug it and stick in the closet until you need to burn something.

  7. Or buy an IDE card for 30 bucks (if that) and get two more IDE channels. This assumes you have room in your case, you didn't exactly state what the problem is...

Do like I did when I got my Pioneer 104, remove the CDRW and put the Pioneer in it's place. Remember the Pioneer does both DVD-R/RW and CDRW. Or remove your 5400 rpm drive. DON'T go external. You would have to buy the external case, power supply, cable, and interface card that adds up to $$$bucks. Then you will have to fight with the software to make it work.

there is no fighting with software to make firewire work -- i run several hard drives and dvd external with firewire and nothing could be easier ... no dealing with IRQ or UDMA modes - i can shut it off when im not using it .. prassi and nero reconize it when on .. and i have a internal plextor cdr also and there is no conflects ...

also its nice because you can move the burner to another machine .. you can buy a case and card for 100$ - $150 , thats all you need plus now you would have a firewire card for DV in the future ...

  11. External case is the best way to go. I just bought dvdr from office max 249 after rebate. I put it into external case, it cost me another 59. I already had wireport on my computer, most of today computers included firewire port, even laptop. Windows XP and nero had no problem recognizing it. It worked beautiful.

the drive case supplies power and everything.

All you do is plug the drive up to the IDE port, plug in the drive case into an outlet, plug it in via firewire.

If you have Windows XP u shouldn't need to do much. Windows should treat it as a normal drive.

    I don't recomind removing the cd-rw, because it's 40x and the DVD-R isn't as fast.
