I was trying to capture video from cable by hooking up the cable box to the vcr, then connected the vcr's output to the digital camcorder and then from the camcorder to my pc. (I did this to convert the video to digital using the camcorder's digital to analog conversion feature). I failed!!! The video displayed on my monitor was garbled but the sound was ok.

Then I tried connecting the cable straight to the vcr, then to my pc and the resulting video was normal.

I tried the first setup because I would like to capture pay per view movies which could'nt be done without a cable box.

Does anybody have this experience before? And how did you fix it?

  2. cable box should have 3 outputs (coax, rca jacks and svid) plus audio out

tv/capture card should have 3 inputs (coax, rca jacks and svid) plus audio in (or audio in via soundcard)

connect any one from the cable box to the input card

    ie

coax from wall to cable box > coax from cable box to vcr > coax from vcr to TV
svid + audio from cable box to computer
rca plugs from cable box to vcr

if your scrambled from cable box to computer on PPV then the problem is most likely macrovision.

    fiend,

the cable box i'm using has 1 coax output and 2 rca outputs(1 for video and 1 for audio).

i am not using my video card to capture, even though it's capable of doing it. i'm using one of the "ieee ports" of my pc which i connect to the digital cam to capture.

from my first post i forgot to mention that using the cable box, every channel was garbled, regular, premium and ppv channels.

    any more ideas?
