  1. Hi Folks- I had been playing/ripping DVD's in my drive periodically for a while, now for some reason it will only play region(0), it may play others but I only have region(2) & (0) to try on it. Originally it would have been set to region(2). Pioneer DVD114.

I have since tried firmware updates and firmware hacks but no joy, I have also tried the drive in another PC and it still will not play (2) even although the software and OS are set to (2) I managed to get it to play on the alternate PC a couple of times after changing the firmware, but on reboot it would go back to "normal".

By rights it should play (2) 's wherever I have it installed, the only thing I can think of (but it's a longshot) is that after I downloaded SP3 for W2000 from M$ update, the first DVD I played was region(0) and now that's all it will play apart from Roms and VCD's.
But surely nothing could have happened to the drive with the M$ update, and surely it would have changed back with the firmware changes, as I said that's a longshot, but it's the only thing I can think of after retracing my steps.

When I try to play a (2) the drive just keeps slipping like it can't read the disc, this problem is a mystery so I would appreciate any advice from anyone -O'Keddy

OS & Power DVD set to (2) & most recent firmware revision 2.06

That service pack did affect dvd playback. I dont' know exactly how but I do know it did affect playback.

No a dvd-rom set to region 0 would play all regions.

I helped a mate out the other day.
We updated his firmware to the region free one.
But we still had to use a program like DVDGenie to reset the region changes number (usually 5). You can then keep going down to 1 then resetting using DVDGenie.
Not sure if this helps but.........
    I tried

yes he correct - you still have to use dvdgeni even after burning a region free firmware ..

  6. Thanks for the replies - I had DVDgenie installed after I updated the firmware etc, I tried every permutation I could think of, I've now reinstalled the OS so I'm back to a normal set up - latest revision firmware OS & DVD software set to (2) but I still can't play region (2)'s, it's a complete mystery why they won't play, even DVD's I played/ripped before won't play..

  7. Have you tried DVD Region Killer with the region-free firmware? I believe that DVD Genie still has some issues with XP and Win 2000. Region Killer works for me with my Pioneer-116 DVD-ROM.
