  1. I have a divx movie that was encoded as an Xvid format avi. I would like to convert that to mpeg so that i can burn as a VCD. Only problem is that when i follow the instructions on here for divx->vcd, it doesn't work b/c virtual dub doesn't support the Xvid codec. i've got the codecs installed b/c i can watch the movie on my computer (wither in WinDVD or Media Player). Also tried doing a straight convert in TMPGEnc but that didn't work either. Anyone have any ideas or how tos on this topic?

    Thanx,

Most of the problems are missing codec's. Download and install the Nimo codec pack

    http://nimo.everwicked.com/ http://perso.wanadoo.fr/nimo/

Nimo also has the Xvid codec

Virtual Dub does support XviD, you just don't have it installed. Follow King John's Link to the Nimo Pack, and install it then give it a go

Installing ffdshow is probably the safest way. http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/ffdshow-20020617.exe You can then turn support on and off for the xvid codec. If the audio is ogg you may need to use Graphedit. Either way, you will end up with an avi and wav that will both input into TMPG.

  5. Just on this topic...I'm having trouble also trying to convert a XviD to SVCD.

I installed the Nimo codecs as suggested, and even fddshow, but I keep getting the following error in virtualdub when I attempt to create a .wav file to then insert in TMPG.

"The requested audio compression is not compatible with the audio input. Check the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format."

Not being an "expert" in such matters, I'm unsure as to the exact process of extracting a .wav file from the movie. Any help would be great, thanks.

As I said in my previous post, XviD often has ogg audio. In which case you are better off extracting avi and wav using Graphedit. This never fails to work.

Nimo does have Ogg Vorbis, AC3 and most other audio codec's.

    Audio > full processing mode
    Audio > conversion > 44.1Khz
    SAVE WAV

    Saves uncompressed, Or

    Audio > direct stream copy
    SAVE WAV

To save audio as it is

Xvid is a video codec, who knows what the audio is ?. In Vdub select file > file information

You don't need to save the audio for conversion later with TMPGEnc, unless there is a problem with the AVI
