Audio is out of sync using ATI AIW 7500 and TMpgenc.
I havent used the capture function in a while, and I quickly selected some settings to get a recording going. I ended up with a huge mpeg file that was/is a complete nightmare to deal with.
I demuxed and muxed using TMpgenc. Then encoded it using TMpgenc into a semi compliant VCD (Nero didnt like it, but it burned fine and played in my DVD player).
Problem is... the darn video's AUDIO is out of sync after its been through the TMpgenc process. Its gradually out of sync as the show progresses, until near the end its like a chinese movie! The audio is fine in the original giant mpeg.
I hate ATI.How can I fix this audio problem for the mpeg I've already created. And how do I make sure THIS NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN?!
Anyone have a fool proof method of making TV captures that can also be turned into nice VCDs with this card?
thanks!

This works for me every time.
1. Demux Video with Tmpgenc
2. Strip WAV file with FLASK
3. Create D2V file from demuxed video with DVD2AVI
4. Open D2V file in AviSynth, using Mpeg2dec.dll
5. Open AVS file in Vdub, open WAV for audio
6. Frameserve to Tmpgenc or CCE, keep audio and video seperate
7. Remux with BBmpeg
8. Image with VCDImager, Burn with NERO
I automate this with AutoPilot from Acrasoft, run a macro and wake up with a disk burnt.
Always start cap a minute or so early, and when editing in Vdub, do not cut it too close. -
OMG!
... what a process! LOL
reluctantly I will try all of that because im at my wits end... thanks.
Is that your normal routine for making video captures? Isn't there an easier way to make the audio not go out of sync in the first place?
I have made the changes in ATI's capture settings to a custom setting "VCD 2.0" like I found in the guides here. Will that recording also go out of sync when I Tmpgenc it?
Im in the middle of testing some other capture programs. I think its ATIs crummy software that is the issue.
cant it be easyLOL

Nelson37,
I agree your method would probably yield the best result, but that's a lot to throw at a newbie.
vcds4me,
What version of of MMC are you using for capture? Since I upgraded to MMC 7.7.0.1 all my sync issues went away. If you haven't already done so, download the latest drivers to go with it. Also if space isn't an issue you might try using VirtualDub to capture with using Huffyuv as a compressor. The files will be huge, but when you run it thru TMPGEnc you won't be able to argue with the results. -
uninstall ATI's/Raviscent's Cinemaster Audio Decoder (the ATI MPEG-2 codec. it causes 80% of ATI sync problems. they're not always in the file, just in the playback. but the files have to be decoded before they're re-encoded, so if tmpg is using cinemaster to decode audio that could be a problem. also, most codecs don't cut VBR very well. you should have better luck with CBR, though it's a bigger file that way)
regserv32 /u dscinemaudiodecoder.dll (or the .ax version in NT/2k)
or go to the common files\raviscent shared\ and delete the dscinemaudiodecoder.ax or .dll file
i think the windvd codec is the best sync-wise, and it's of comparable video quality to the ATI. install the windvd demo, i believe that will stay on your system (i have the real version, so i'm not 100% sure) -
Yep, its a bitch, and yes, I do it almost every day. I should note that my guide for this method came from observing DVD2SVCD logs, which was the first program I ever made a Video Disk with. So I copied my method from DVD2SVCD and slightly modified the process to let me edit in Vdub.
I'm gonna try PatrickM's Ravisent deletion, I sure hope it works as the audio synch problem is what drove me to the above method. -
patrick--- I have windvd (love the video on it) so I'd be happy to use the codec from it. But I havent got a clue how to select the codec to be used for ATIs capture. help! thanks.

vcds4me,
Did 7.7.0.4 come with the card? I was just at the ATI site and 7.7.0.1 is still listed as the latest update. If so I'd like some feedback. I might want to avoid it!...It wouldn't be the first time those boneheads over there went one step foward and fell back 3. Thanks....

hummmm... I guess I was looking in the wrong file? The updates avail on the site are definately more current than the ones I have, because I dl'd them from ATI more than a month ago. the file (properties) I looked at was the ATIMMC.EXE file which says its version 7.7.0.4. wierd.
Well anyways its worth a shot to update my drivers, et all.
by the way, the VCD 2.0 setting recommended in the guide here, works perfectly. No muxing around, just capture and burn. No sync problem with that method at all. big help! Not the most beautiful picture, but definately vcr or tivo type quality, which is very watchable. Cant tell it from cable.
thanks for your help guys!
