  1. i've tried capturing directly to divx and it doesn't seem to save much space.. i was wondering how it was possible to get 43 minutes of data in 100-150 megs? i've seen it done but i didn't know if it captured directly to divx or captured to avi or mpg and then converted to divx afterwards.. i tried posting in the conversion board but i got about 200 megs per 25-30 minutes.. hmm also, does anyone know an easy way to cut it up in segments to cut out commercials?

  2. without knowing your setup or what you cpature with, I can only tell you what I use.

IF you are capturing straight to divx, with 5.02 in virtualdub select 1-pass quality based and set the quantizer to the level of detail you want. and as long as your CPU can handle it you should do well.

personally I capture with huffy, and uncompressed PCM audio initally, then use seperate passes for the video then the audio to keep A/V sync. The Vitualdub 2 pass works pretty well for compressing the video portion of the filesize, and you can use your own personal prefance for the audio (I use mp3 128kBit). however since quality is higher on my care meter than filesize I do have not tried to get the end resulting file all the way down to 100mb. I am perfectly happy with 45minutes of divx taking up 700mb. that way each of my files fits on a single CD and i get the highest quality that will fit onto it.
