Has anybody found a good one?

I've read TMPGenc's previous "Warning" about the 2.57 upgrade(now they changed it to a "Statement" of Change), saying it would no longer work with DirectShow from Microsoft and can be unstable unless you use one of 3 companie's (pay) products as the DVD player it needs.

What are other TMPGenc users doing? (I haven't upgraded from 2.56 because of this).

Is there a free product that will work with it now? Or has everyone just acquiesced, and paid extra money for a new player program?

Yes, I've had pretty good luck with 2.56 also, but they say 2.57 made a bug fix of an audio problem with encoding big files.

And I'm about to start working with some 4 to 6 hrs DVD files, so I'd like to use that.

are there no TMPGenc 2.57 users that have found a free DVD player/decoder program that works with it?

(besides the other extra 3rd party software company's products they now tell us we have to buy to use TMPGenc?)

    ??

    Well I'm a 2.57plus user.

I'm trilled about the quality I get (I'm a quality freak), but it seems the mpeg's (either mpg-1 or mpg-2) are different 'build'. It seems VCDimager cannot detect the audio-headers (needs to be fixed - in VCDimager I suppose) when the mpg has been encoded with this 2.57 release

Never-the-less, I don't mind of this minor thing while the movies still plays perfectly at my DVD-player.
SVCD is great - encoding using CBR gives me great results.

I'm not familiar with 'large' files.
The largest mpg I've ever created is 80 minutes (the size of a CDR), although the source-avi's easely can be 22GB in size (source = DV).
