  1. hey, i have a problem with the audio being out of sync when i encode a divx dvd rip, Dude Where's My Car. The audio is out of sync right from the beginning. First, I saved the audio as a wav using Vdub. I went to the TMPGEnc wizard, selected NTSCFilm, because the divx file's framerate is 23.976. Next, I inserted the audio and video in the selected slots. Then, I selected the source range to encode, because i need to fit it on 2 cd's. Then I went to other settings and set it on fullscreen (keep aspect ratio) so it wouldn't stretch, then i saved it on encoded it. i open the mpg from my hard drvie and it's way out of sync. did the same for the other half of the movie. anyone have any suggestions?

What were your audio settings before you saved the file to .wav?
    Hello.

  3. the audio settings in vdub were avi audio and direct stream copy mode, if that's what you mean. if not, what do you mean?

If the sound is out of sync
Open the captured file in Virtual Dub. Choose "Frame Rate" under the "Video" menu. Choose "Change so video and audio durations match". Before saving, make sure you have selected "Direct Stream Copy" under the video menu and Full processing mode under the audio menu. (thanks to Mindstone for this one)
I wish I could remember where I got this quote from, but you know what to do from here.

Could you be a little more specific about the error?

That sounds like you are trying to load an MPEG-2 video into VDub.
    Hello.

  9. yeah, i am. the divx file isn't out of sync, the finshed product (aka "the mpeg-2 svcd) is out of sync

Remember, VDub cannot load MPEG-2s into itself.

The best way to 'decode' MPeG-2 is via "Flask-Mpeg". It's free-software (properly you find a link somewhere at the 'tools'-section of this site).
Via FlaskMpeg you can decode any MPeG file to an AVI using any video-codec which is installed at your system (I don't think it allows you to create DivX - you should try that for yourself).

The resulting AVI is then suiteble for any program that can work with AVI's - like VDub and TMPGenc.

Forgot to mention in my previous post :
If the source-avi is DivX, you cannot rely on TMPGenc to encode it directly to MPeG.
You'll better load the DivX-AVI first in VirtualDub (and be sure the audio is there too).
Then save to a new AVI, using some other codec (NOT DivX!), including the audio (don't set "Direct Stream Video" in the menu of VDub while the movie must be encoded all over again) - this can take a while...

After this is done (be sure, check the resulting avi in MediaPlayer and verify that the audio still is okay too), you now can encode it to MPeG using TMPGenc.
Load the correct template (if the source was 23.97fps or 29.97fps, then it's NTSC - otherwise it's PAL) for either VCD or SVCD.
Then hit the 'Start' button - that can take a while too.

If then still not okay, then load the 're-encoded' avi which you previously saved via VDub using some other codec but DivX again in VDub, but now only save the audio (so you get a WAV file).
Load this wave file in the audio-slot of TMPGenc and encode that one to a MP2 (load the same template as which you used to encode the MPeG).

Then use the MPeG-tools of TMPGenc.
De-Multiplex the video from the mpeg (so you get a 'm1v' if you encoded a VCD or a 'm2v' if you encoded a SVCD).
Now multi-plex this m_v ( '_' = 1 or 2) together with the mp2. Don't forget to select the proper type of the MPeG in the type-box (it's mentioned via a 'dropdown'-box at the top of the tab.
Now the MPeG should be okay.
