Hi i have benn using this useful little proggie for a while and am having major problems. I've been able to shrink only two movies sucessfully. All others i try get to a certain percentage and rempeg locks up xp pro. Any one have this problem?? I'm running an athlon 2000xp processor on a gigabyte mobo with 512mb pc 2100ddr ram. It's getting real frustrating, are there any other programs that can shrink the demuxed m2v file??
Thanks in advance guy's.

Hi m8,
I know this isn't what you want to here, but
I'm running ReMpeg with XP pro with 512 pc2700 333 ddram, and it works ok, had no problems as yet, but takes bloody ages to encode, anything between 18-22 hours
ReMpeg does stop at 99%.....thats normal -
from looking through this forum and others, it seems rempeg has lots of problems with winxp pro locking up, as well as it being incredibly slow with it too, you two have much better systems than me but it still only takes 4 hours on my pc using win2kpro
-
Tmpeg can also be used to transcode an .m2v file which can then be remuxed with Ifoedit.
-
why bother with rempeg? its slow and quality's crap why not use cce or tmpgenc which are faster and give better quality. simple really
-
Because ReMPEG2 is the only thing I can get to work with IFOEdit when using th re-mux feature. Anyone have any luck with TMPGEnc or CCE? What's the best settings?
-
In my expierence Rempeg transcodes at a 3-to-1 time ratio,Tmpeg at a 4-to-1 ratio. Tmpeg is noticeably slower then Rempeg. You need to do your encoding in Tmpeg at 2-pass-VBR to equal Rempeg. I can't afford CCE,I'm not rich. I wasn't aware that CCE would process a VOB file.

you have a valid point about tmpgenc and ifoedit but there is a work around check out www.dooom9.org as for your encoding time figures all i can say is it takes me around 2 1/2 hours to encode a 2 hour film with tmpgenc, the same film in rempeg estimated it would take 12 hours
when i compared the quality of each encode rempeg was frankly crap granted it is getting old now and in need of a overhaul
You reap what you sew -
How do you get the Video and Audio to synch using Tmpg and ifoEdit. I can get it to work fine with rempeg, but I want the quality of tmpg. After hours of encoding, I still can't get it to synch. When I play the movie and click to forward to the next chapter, the ending of the video of previous chapter plays for a bit, but the sound is already playing the next chapter.
This is what I did:
1. Rip the enter DVD onto HD
2. Use ifoEdit 0.88 to create only the I frames Tmpg template.
3. Create .d2v file using dvd2avi.
4. Start Tmpg and open the .d2v file that was created.
5. In settings set Force picture type setting and load the tmpg template.
6. Encode
7. remux the video back using ifoEdit 0.932
What am I doing wrong? The only thing I can think of to try is to encode
the movie at 23fps. The original movie is at 29fps. -
suggestion: use CCE to re-encode, its ALOT faster, goto doom's page for a guide using cce( it might look co,plicated at first but follow the guide until u get to the GOP settings...dont forget to change it to multipass and set how many passes u want...but leave out the GOP and after parts of the guide UNTIL U GET MORE FIMILIAR WITH CCE.
u cant use ifoedit to remux...just use and easy authoring proggy like spruce up to remux
i have a 500mhz P3
it took 17 hours to do a 2pass encode of lord of the rings with an avg bitrate of 2900 and a max of 9000. with CCE
after i checked to see how long Rempeg would have taken,
it would have took 34+ hours to reencode with only 1 PASS
tmpg multipass would have taken 30+ hours also -
a few questions/concerns i found here. rempeg is the only encoder that will allow you to correctly remux with ifoedit. when i first started i used it too and had tons of problems, not to mention crappy output. CCE is not hard and there are no "best" settings. only correct settings and they vary depending on your input video stream. read the guides on doom9 and then you will be able to decide what settings are right for the movie on which you are working. CCE will give you the bets output and it's also the fastest encoder i have found. if you can't afford it then chances are you can find it somewhere else for cheaper, like free =)
