has anybody managed to successfully burn 2 movies onto dvdr? I've created my first dvd2dvdr backup using rempeg to encode the movie file to a smaller size (4.2Gb to 3.2Gb), and with media prices in oz being around $10 each putting 2 movies onto a single disc would b quite a viable option. Or will making the movie to such a small size really degrade the quality severley? Hopefully somebody can save me a time it will take.

  2. one solution would be to use half d1 dvds to fit more length. at the 352x480 resolution you can lower the bitrate substantially (3000bps or so). I've got about 3.5 hours at very acceptable results doing this before. Granted, its lwoer resolution, so it's not as high a quality, but if you want more on a disc, its a great way to go.
    mmm....unexplained bacon...

Our extended forecast calls for flurries of passion followed by extended periods of gettin it on.

    http://www.thediscshop.com.au/ have 4.7 Lasers for $AU4.50 atm.

I was going to do the 388x576 (PAL) thing myself after LOTR came out choppy as after Rempeging at 65%. Stormcrow's figure of 3000bps was the bitrate I was going to try.

  4. i did LOTR the other week, its far too big to use ifoedit and reencode with rempeg, i just encoded the .m2v with cce with a few passes, and muxed this with the audio in scenarist, so all the menus etc.. were scrapped to dedicate as much space as possible for the long movie.

2 movies on 1 dvdr would be easy enough if you dont mind the loss in quality (if they're long), just get your two movies and put them in an authoring program (i prefer scenarist, bit of effort to learn though), and knock up a simple menu

i've just ripped Fast And The Furious using SmartRipper, as one video file and a seperate audio file. It came out as being 3.8Gb for the video file. Re-encoding the video file at 40% it came down to 1.7Gb with no noticeable loss to quality when played on the pc. Haven't put it to dvdr yet though. Currently re-encoding Training Day at 40% too, which should come out at 1.8Gb. I'll burn them both to dvdr and add a menu system and post the results.
