I recently download a movie clip. the problem is that it is in a strange format that i have never seen before .WMV
I want to encode this to mpg but TMPGEnc doesnt recognise the file format, neither does VDub.
does anybody know what program i could use to convert to .avi then to .mpg???

I sure hope somebody can help me

    Thanx to all that reply

Change .WMV to .ASF and tmpeg may just convert it for you. Not always, but sometimes... at least it should load.

EO video does a great job of converting .wmv and asf to avi...

  5. If that trick doesn't work download the Windows Media Tools from the MS website for free. You can then convert it to a AVI or ASF that you can use in Virtualdub etc.

  6. WMV = Windows Media Video

While most of the time you see it being streamed from the internet to your Windows Media Player it is a very good format for regular home videos too.... It's small and has pretty good quality...Very Custimizable....

for full screen(pc or tv) you will need at least 7 to 8 megs per minute even though it is probably good in a reduced window, ther is not much you can do with a clip that is less than 2 megs per minute if you want at least decent quality.
