Just bought the apex 1100w (the older model with 1mb that supports VCD). Problem is, when playing a VCD there is no fast forward or reverse. Everything must be played from the beginning of the disc. The instructions refer to turning on or off the PBC (play back controls) when viewing VCDs, but gives no instructions on how to do this. Bought a second unit (can't beat the $63.00 wal-mart price) to see if it had same problem--it does. Apex does not respond to my inquiries thru their support system. Any ideas out there.
thanks, Mike Patterson

I've had a 1100w(1mb) for about 4 months now. I never had a problem fast fowarding. From what I've heard there is a misprint on the pbc. It is automaticly turned when the disc calls for it.
When making vcds i would encode with tmpgenc, author with vcd easy to a disc image, and finally burn with nero. The vcds work really well.
A word to the wise, take caution to not let the 1100w overheat to many times. Now mine sparkles alot and will freeze up sometimes. -
I posted a similar question to yours. I bought the 1100w that appears to be a 512k but it still plays vcd. I don't get any problems fast forwarding or rewinding dvd or vcd. I'm using Ulead DVD Movie Factory to make vcd & dvd. But when I put in a disc with just mpeg-1 I lose the ff and rew. I also contacted tech support & got no answer. I finally called them and they said you couldn't enable ff or rew on anything other than dvd or vcd. He said they didn't advertise any mpeg-1 playback at all & therefore didn't support any functions for it. He was pretty short, rude, and un-talkative about the whole thing. I told him how stupid I thought it was to make a player that plays files(regardless of advertised or not they know it will play them) & have no ff or rew. I asked about pbc noting they didn't tell you how to turn it off. He said this model didn't have a button to turn it off. Hope this helps some.

tks, guys,
My problem was that I was copying the movie to a disk as a data disk rather than copying as VCD. Once I copied as VCD FF and REV worked fine. I did find that burning with NERO worked better than the software that came with computer.
thanks again,
