Hiya,
i've encoded an avi to mpeg2 with Tmpgenc, after that i've created an menu and chapters with spruce up (and also burned my dvd-r with it)
When i play the dvd-r on my stand alone player the video is choppy, constantly. it's choppy on regular base (approx every second it is like when you play a videotape and it jumps back a few frames)
Please help me out here.
What am i doing wrong

I could be the field order in wrong while transcoding. Did you use "Field A" first or "Field B" first?

Just to say Roy exacly the same thing happens to me... just got my first DVD-R burner and it does the same using TMPGEnc 2.56 (it used to do it a bit on VCD too). Picture is fine but every second or so it almost seems to lock for just a fraction of a second, almost has a "rhythm" to it... anybody got any ideas?

Sofalofa,
This is exactly what I mean. I'm using Tmpgenc to convert the movie to mpeg2, put it into spruce-up and create some menu's. after that I burn everuthing to a dvd-r and this problem occurs.
But as you can see in the reply above, there's someone out there that is gonna provide us with a bit of help, I just wait and see.

A common cause of this kind of choppy playback is a change of framerate between the source avi and the final mpeg2. For example, if you use a downloaded divx avi with a framerate ot 23.97fps (NTSC film, quite common) and then select a PAL template in TmpGenc it will insert extra frames to pad out the movie to 25fps, thus resulting in slightly choppy playback. Make sure the TmpGenc template chosen matches the avi in terms of framerate.
Hope this helps -
It sure can help, however this when i download a ntsc divx, but i need to convert it to pal for my stand alone player, how can i change the ntsc to pal without having this frame problem ??

it is very rare that NTSC->Pal conversion is really necessary, take a look at this thread here for good advice:

if this does not apply to you there is a PAL->NTSC conversion guide here:
http://forum.vcdhelp.com/userguides/78178.php, its a complex process tho! -
Bugster, you're the greatest, I own a pioneer dv-77 system and just browsed from the pioneer site, and guess what....... my system can play pal & ntcs disc, so i guess my next dvd-r project will be a ntsc one, as everything goes well this shouldn't giv eany problems to my player.
Thanx a lot,
an ever greatfull dvd-r tryer -
Many thanks for that bugster... have just done a test and you are absolutely right... When I've captured footage in PAL and converted it using for TMPGEnc there's never been a problem. Never occured to me about the NTSC conversion. have just converted a 5 minute clip in NTSC, burned it onto SVCD and it's absolutely fine.... Thanks for the tip mate

Glad to be of service guys. Just one more small piece of advice. These forums have a search button at the top of the page. Careful use of this button can help solve most problems you may encounter much more quickly than posting a question that has probably been asked many times before. It doesn't work all the time but is usually worth a try.
