  1. Having read the mass of threads on DTS ripping and methods it appears a real minefield.

Could someone explain if there are any single layer discs with DTS, and if so will they rip and write OK using the normal process or is there a problem with the ripper software in ripping DTS audio (or furthermore is DTS audio just too big to ever fit a single layer disc).

    Regards

there is at least one commercial dvd that is single sided because i recall making it ..

they will rip and write just fine ..

it will be rare to find a single sided disk though , yes .. but you can split the audio and video on two disks or re-encode the video to a lower bit rate and convert the 6 channel dts to 2ch ac3 (or even lower bit rate 6ch ac3) ..

a lot of dvd's coming out now have both dts and dolby digital on them ,, so you could pick also which stream you want to de-mux ..

  3. The simplest way is to rip first all the dvd files to harddrive, then use DVD2AVI 1.77.3 (latest version) which can demux dts besides ac3, pcm and mpg audio tracks.
The largest files are the PCM audio tracks.
DTS and ac3 are fully otimized.
But you need a pro authoring app to use them back, as Scenarist NT or DVD Maestro, or a little trick: rename your tracks as".mpa" and get them into spruceup!
The trick does not work in DVDit LE or SE. PE handles ac3.
    I haven't tested DVD workshop.

  5. Enemy at the gates is DTS and can be ripped on to one DVD if you take out the DD soundtrack. Use IFOEdit and strip streams, worked no problem for me.

Ok I ripped the whole thing and used the latest DVD2AVI and ended up with my video file and a *.dts one. I renamed it to mpa and loaded the whole thing into SpruceUp. When I go to simulate it plays the video but not the audio.

Is that because it is in dts format? Will it play on the DVD player?

thaiwoo - since it is a dts track -- you would then need a dts decoder , uless one is built in to your dvd player (rarer)

Are you sure? I have Enemy at the Gates at it has Dolby Digtal 5.1 but no DTS. What region is it? Has a newer version been released?

Almost all DTS releases are single-SIDED, I think you meant single-layered.

I noticed on Jurassic Park III that the first audio stream is ac3-6 channel. The second audio stream is SDDS 6-channel. Is SDDS DTS?

SDDS is Sony Dynamic Digital Sound http://www.sdds.com/

JP3 second track is DTS on both the released version and collectors edition .. the collector edition is pan and scan - the regular release is not .
