    Hiya !

I've just made a DivX movie that works great except I can not fast forward the movie or slide around in the movie. I made the movie from uncompressed AVI (DV) to DivX using VirtualDub and DivX Pro 5.0.2 Codec. Can anyone tell me what to do and what I've done wrong ?

    Thank's !

Its sounds like you took the default keyframe settings (Every 100 frames) this makes it difficult to edit, skip etc. Set keyframes to every 10

I don't get it ??? I does not say anything about "Every 100 frames" as default. Default for Max Keyframe Interval is 300 frames. I've read somewhere that it is a good thing to set this acording to the movie framerate i.e. 250 for 25 fps (PAL) and 300 for 29.9 fps (NTSC), so I've set it to 250. Should I lower this all the way down to 10 instead of 250 ?

Do you want to "play" it or edit/skip ?

Why not try a short bit at every 10, then see what I mean...

300 is fine for playback from start to finish

I've tried changing the Max Keyframe Interval from 300 to 10. This makes it possible to move around in the movie, but the picture frezzes and sound works fine. Does anyone have a template saved for VirtualDub that I could try, 'cause I can not seem to get it to work.

    Thank's

    Template
I don't see your computer details, so cannot tell if its your CPU. When does it freeze ? On playback trying to keep up with the sound ? Its not always possible to see what you made is working correctly, try a few minuets worth, then re-load into Vdub and play it.

Here is the Quick Config CLI i.e. my settings for DivX Pro 5.0.2:

    -b22 1357 -r 640,360,3 -key 10 -log "c:\divx.log" -mv "c:\mvinfo.bin" -b -g -dr 12,2,2000,10,20 -sc 50 -pq 5

    Any suggestions ?

    -b1 2000 -pre 4 -key 250 -b -g -dr 4,2,2000,10,20 -sc 50 -pq 5

    Variable bitrate.
Choose the type of encoding,"1-pass" encoding is similar to DivX 3.11 Alpha's "low motion" encoding. "1-pass quality based" encoding is basically constant bitrate encoding (same bitrate used for every frame)

    Encoding bitrate :
This is the bit rate setting for the video. A setting of 1500 will produce very good quality video, lower will mean a smaller file size, but poorer quality

MV file - DivX 5.x adds MV files, which contains Motion Vector data. Having a MV file will speed up the 2-pass encoding process, as motion compensation is performed during the first pass, and will not need to be done on the second pass again.

    MPEG4 Tools :
Use Global Motion Compensation (GMC) is useful in improving the quality of scenes where lots of movement

Bidirectional encoding allows for the use of B frames in the encoding, in addition to the I-frame (data for this frame is completely stored) and the P-Frame (predicted frame). This option also increases quality, so enable it as well.

What's your output like , No good asking me I can't see it !

Damn !-It seems to work and the output file is about half the size of what is was when using the other settings. You are deffinately the King, Hohn. Thank's !

Could you please explain why the file is only half the size ? The bitrate is even 2000 instead of 1357. I don't see any logic in this.

Glad your getting somewhere, I guess you had something on/off or overlooked The next time on some other Movie source, you may need to start "All over again"
