  1. I have an old base unit i dont use (Duron 600/128mb/Windows ME). I want to turn this into an entertainment center (of sorts), all i need is a decent (cheap) TV out card, bearing in mind that there will not be a monitor pluggin in. I have been looking at the Matrox Millenium G450...

Any Matrox owners care to comment on this card? and are there any other card suggestions?

  2. I would suggest getting an older radeon (R100, the older Radeon) ViVO or All-in Wonder off of Pricewatch.com. The Matrox G450 has great VGA-out quality on the monito, but the TV-out support leaves a bit to be desired. The ATi cards have the best TV-out support as well as DVD decoding available in a consumer level video card, and the prices on the older Radeons should be very reasonable if you can still find one now that the Radeon 7500 and 8500 have been out for a while, and the Radeon 9700 coming out very soon. I just checked procewatch and was able to find some Radeon Vivos for around 50-100 bucks. Well worth the money.

  3. How about RadeonVE? It's cheap (<$40), as all ATi cards it detects connected TV and uses it - even in DOS mode. Only problem that it's slow in 3D ~ as TNT2 Ultra, but you CPU isn't fast anyway.

  4. The only thing is that the VE does not have a video input for a tuner (on the Vivo) or a VCR/camcorder/etc. But if you don't care about this, go for it. A Radeon VE might be easier to find as well.
