  1. I've just purchased a multiregion Toshiba SD220E DVD player and
connected it to my Toshiba 2539DB Television(approx 7 years old). Whilst watching my 1st DVD (Bridget Jones' Diary). I noticed occasionally that the brightness level changed. Having spoken to my suppier, he says its to do with Macrovision protection and something to do with preventing copying DVD's to video. I just want to watch DVD's not copy them. He says sometimes some TV's have problems like I'm describing. ! What can I do to prevent this problem occuring ?

The DVD is connected directly to the TV via a S-VHS lead. I've tried a SCART lead and it's the same. I've tried it on my portable TV and the problem doesn't occur. The problem also occurs with two other discs so I'm pretty sure it's related to the Macrovision protection.

I thought by buying a Toshiba DVD it would be fully compatibly with my Toshiba TV. I can't afford a new TV just to remove this annoyance. Can you help ?

  2. Get a "Video Stablizer". It's the "Little Black Box" that removes (most) of the fx of Macrovision. You can find them on the net, or at you local electronics store.
    Usually costs around $20 U.S.

  3. I've fixed it with a big thanks to Stan at Toshiba UK technical (He went to the trouble to take my model DVD player home from work as he happened to have the same TV as me at home, as part of his path to help me). Eventually solved by changing a resistor and adding a new one to the TV.

    Regards,

    Ian
