  1. Hi!

I've downloaded several avi files that i ultimately want to burn onto a cdr/cdrw to play on a standalone dvd player. My questions are:

Will Nero (Version 5.5.3.1), do this job for me with a standard avi file, using the wizard?
Does it matter whether I use cdr's or cdrw's as to whether this will play on the standalone player?
when i do use nero, i drop an "autorun.dat" file and something called "vcd play.exe" into the root drive of the cd, so it boots up automatically. Will this affect whether the disc works on a dvd player or not?
Any help would be really appreciated!

  2. nonono, you're doing it all wrong
    1) AVI files can't be read with your standalone DVD player
=> they need to be converted to MPEG1/2
    2) You're using nero wrong: don't use that stupid wizzard, do it manually and select VideoCD or SuperVideoCD.

I suggest you go take a look here:

  3. sooo, i convert the avi using tmpeg.inc and then use Nero?

Or does nero do it for me if i click the "video cd" or "super video cd" option? is there any difference between those two options?

  4. You would do well to click that "how to - newbie" link over there on the left.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  5. thanks!

but in your opinion, which would be better...using Nero and the Video cd or super video cd option, or using tmpeg.inc to convert it, then burn it to cd?

and does it make any difference if i use cdr's or cdrw`s?

    thank you so much!

  6. Nero's encoder is inferior to TMPGenc. TMPG, learn it, live it, love it.

  7. you ALWAYS need to convert the AVI->Mpeg (VCD or SVCD)
The only difference bewteen these 2 is that a SVCD has a supperior quality and larger resolution

You will see that the conversion from AVI -> mpeg will take a quite long time. When you get the MPEG file, open nero, select (S)VideoCD, select the MPEG you converted(drag it into the burn area, then it checked the MPEG file) and burn to cd
