divx looks crappy

i just did a fresh instal of 98se on a compaq presario 1200z laptop.. its playing just fine on the laptop.. so anyhow, i go to check out how it will look through tv-out.. and it looks good.. somehow or another through messing around, anytime i play divx movies they look really crappy, either with or without tv-out.. mpeg2, & mpeg1 video looks just fine.. its only divx that looks horrid, like 16colors horrid.. i've tried reinstalling my divx codec, doesnt work.. reinstalled video driver codec, doesnt work.. its like somehow or another i've trashed divx on the pc..

does anyone have any idea's on what to do?

and if not, what would i do to completly remove divx codec from my computer?

i've installed divx 3.11alpha & divx 4.12.

Have you tried using the Divx player itself? How does the picture look? Is it really pixellated, are the colors wrong or just washed out?

yep. tried that.. the colors look like the display adapter is set to 16 colors.. which it isnt of course

Just out of curiosity, have you installed DivX 5?

nope.

the movie was created with divx 4.12.. (i created it meself).. maybe i'll try installed 5.02
