1. I have Starship Troopers that i'm trying to rip, i started the DVD with powerDVD, open SmartRipper...it unlocked everything, according to the screen. I set my setting like the tutorial mention on this site. About 33%, i got a dialog box that said this section is lock, trying unlocking it.

My dvd was running the entire time in the background..... Does anyone know away around this???? I done a few DVD's before this, everything worked fine on those.

please help..thanks

2. u dont need to play ur video the whole time in the background. You only need to play it for about 1min into the film and everything should be fine. You can then close it.Try that- maybe because u was playing the file it was on it could not read it. Also if that dont work i would recomend DVD dycrpter.

DVD Decrypter, it's got a more stable code base.

4. I did both things.... started the movie for the first minute, according to Smart Ripper everything unlocked, so i shut down the DVD software, recheck my settings, then ripped. Same thing.

I used DVD decrypter, i followed the same procedure, same point ont he DVD @ 46:06 (min/sec) is retried 15 times then gave me an error.

Maybe this DVD can't be ripped, i find it odd being such an old DVD, but i would really like to get this, in case of future occurences.

thanks

The DVD CAN be ripped - I've done it.

Smartripper usaully gives you this message when, 1. there's a problem with oyur ASPI layer or 2. you don't have ASPI installed.

Check out the tools section DL the latest APSI layer & give it another try.

6. k,
i'll try that, but i have a question on the installation of that aspi file. I read the "README" file and didn't quite understand...

i double clicked the install.bat,
it asked me to "press any key" so i did, and the command prompt closed. So i went throught the command prompt itself adn typed "install.bet",
same thing.

Can you please help!!!

thanks

I did the same thing at first. It's the aspiinst.exe file that you need to start.

By the way, you never did say which OS you're running. It could make a difference.

That's what I thought. Don't forget to go to the device manager & under your IDE controllers change (if needed) to "DMA if available". Otherwise you'll be ripping at 1.x speeds.

10. It's funny cuz XP thinks my DVD drive doesnt support DMA. ANybody know a way around this? PIO Mode is on even if "DMA if available" is set. I read on the Microsoft site that it changes to PIO mode if it has problems with DMA< but my drive DOES support DMA without a problem.

Boooooommm - Have YOU installed the latest ASPI driver? I've never tried WinXP so I have no ide how it reacts. Maybe you need to do like Win2k & go to the IDE controllers under the device manager & change that... just a thought.

ciphercode - any better?

12. ASPI is installed and if you noticed, I already did try changing the DMA settings.

13. I had a similar problem when I used Smartripper on Win XP.

Got around it by downloading: ftp://ftp6.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll
from the Nero Site.

I then put this in the same folder as Smartripper.

Fired up Smartripper. It works fine now....

14. k,
sorry to be such a problem, but i installed the aspi driver. I haven't check or change the device manager settings. I'll look at that too. Is that under properties???

Back to the problem,
i'm still getting an error, that same error. i posted it on a web site here

http://cipherlinux.topcities.com

It said TRY UNLOCKING NOW, so i restar...
thanks

15. Just a thought. Had same problem with a DVD. Turned out my DVD drive couldn't read the DVD at that point. Worked fine on another DVD drive. Could try another copy of the DVD.

16. hmmm, Could this be due to a scratch on the DVD?

So you tried another copy of the same movie and it worked?

A scratch or maybe it's a weird key system.

Like how to reduce ripping some DVD's are CSSed by chapter not by vob.
Quote Quote
18. so, should i rip each chapter individually? or will that not work either?
Quote Quote
19. You could try ripping each VOB individually to find which one is giving you the problem. As I stated before I had to use a different DVD drive to rip the VOB that was giving me the trouble. I ripped that DVD with no problem using DVD Decripter.

20. Does anyone know of a tutorial for DVD Decrypter?

21. I think I found the solution to the PIO mode on DVD drives under XP.

Like 10 minutes ago, I was playing around with the placing of my drives. And I tried changing my disc drives to the secondary IDE and my Hard Drives to my Primary IDE and voila! XP recognized DMA on all of them. Apparently XP doesn't like disc drives as slaves on the Primary IDE.....

22. Had similar problem and it turned out to be a key search problem with Smartripper, can't remember whcih DVD's off hand.

In smartripper there are several options for key searching: once only, per vob, per chapter etc. Try each one - for me one of them always worked but ymmv.

23. thanks, i will try that.

Hopefully that works, one side question regarding the DEVICE MANAGER IDE Controller. Which TAB is that under (DMA)?

thanks
Quote Quote
24. The exact place depends on OS but find the "Hard Disk Controllers" section (or similar) then within that the "Via Primary IDE Controller" (or secondary or similar) and it is under one of the tabs at the top (settings/options or similar).

The exact name of each part may differ depending on your motherboards, controller and driver version.

thanks

26. The lack of colours are to keep the file size small.
