  1. Hi all, having some problems creating vcds that play on my JVC standalone dvd player, i have followed the stuff of this webpage, but it still dont work, player says reading, then it just goes shows the JVC sign, but if i download some mpg's burn them to cd using nero (which is what i use to burn my own mpgs) then it plays no problem, indicating its something how i am encoding them. I am in the uk, and have used the pal mpg templates.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards- Brij

Are your files multiplexed right ? In TMPGEnc's MPEG tools, demux your files then re-mux them. Make sure you set the type to "MPEG1 Video-CD"

  5. Check the specs of your DVD Player and see if it is listed as compatible with VCD's or SVCD's.
Make some small VCD tests on a CDRW disk rather than wasting CDr's.

Is your dvd able to play cdrs? Your dvd player has to be compatible with playing cdrs, eventhough you may think they are vcds they are still cdrs. I have the same problem with my dvd player and the reason why it wont play the vcds that I made personally is that my dvd doesnt read cdrs.

  8. The earlier DVD players weren't manufactured to accept CD-Rs, although some worked without them even trying to. Ironically, many could read CD-RWs so you may have to try one of these and see if these work instead.

  10. Most standalone dvd-players can play vcds, because they are in mpeg1 format, but this has nothing to do with you being able to play downloaded movies on them(even after converting them with Tmpg).
A piece of advice: if you want to buy a player, make sure to check wether it can not only play audio CD-R, but also VIDEO CD-R!
