Weird CD-R problem

Help!

When I insert a disc into my Yamaha 16 speed CD-R, I get a message that I have unplugged the drive although it writes no prob.
Plus wait for it

My Pioneer DVR-A03 will only read some DVD's is it anything to do with the new gold discs the guys have, but 8 Legged Freaks & Austin Powers work great but Stuart Little 2 and Road To Perdition and Croc Hunter won't.

Please, Please Help
