  1. If base on the DVD compatible list, RV31 does not support SVCD. and I have a question, hopefully any one can answer that!

The VCD movie (2 CDs) from Video rental store can play on this DVD player(RV31). What kind of format the movie VCD used? How they made such good quality on the regular CD and also can fit into it?

Is any difference on the quality between VCD 1.0 and 2.0 format?

    Thank you!

  2. We are talking about an age old comparison of quality here. VCD 1.0 and 2.0 include differences in playback control. The SVCD is an issue of resolution, subtitles, multiple audio tracks and MPEG-2.

I only have a 32" Toshiba TV. VCD's look a little more blurred than an SVCD (which from a DVD rip looks nearly as good as a D2 DVD.)

An authored VCD can look pretty darn great if you work with the settings, and learn from these groups the best settings, etc. I only use SVCD for DVD rips, to maintain the higher resolution. Grabs from my AIW Radeon always get VCD authoring.

  3. Thanks for answering the questions about the difference between VCD 1.0 & 2.0.

As you mention eariler in the reply, it is possible to author a good quality of VCD with different setting in the ATI Radeon software. But I'm wondering, is it possible to make the quality as good as VHS tape when I convert the VHS tape to VCD?

Or you have any suggestion on how to change the setting in the ATI software in order to make the VCD quality close to VHS?

    Thank you!
