    Hey . . .

If you open the AVI file in Virtual Dub, and go to the File menu and select "file information", what it does it tell you about the nature of the sound in the AVI? If Virtual Dub can't tell you the nature of the compression used, chances are it's an AC3 soundtrack (assuming the AVI is a DivX one ???).

A reason for the increase in file size might be that when the file is re-encoded to MPG format, the soundtrack is being re-encoded as a PCM WAV format - does this sound likely??

  3. well no not really, because its not the file's problem. the file is infact small enough to be on a CD but Nero "reads" it as a bigger file saying "the file is too big to be burn" when it isn't. how annoying is that. I was thinking maybe I should uninstall and reinstall it. Bad or good idea?

How big (or small) is the original file? Bolta may be correct.
