How much did you pay for it, where did you buy it and what are the bad things about this card?

Very curious and probably about to buy one, about 2,800 sek(260$) from http://www.dustin.se. Is that okay?

    Thanx/

  2. Hi,

You should check out the WinTV PVR forums for info about it. Go to SHS's site and click on the forums button:
    http://shs-tv.m0ss.com

IMHO, get a standard WinTV and spend the extra money on improving the machine itself. Hardware MPEG2 devices (including the DVCII) are too much of a hassle (and too much expense) to do anything but the most basic editing.

  3. I've also been looking into getting a wintv-pvr, and
sadly, I've come to the same conclusion as AndrewDV.

Buy.com has them for $214 US-- I'm not sure if they ship
    international though.

There are a lot of conflicting reports about this card.
On this site there is a drop-dead beautiful clip that
was made with the wintv-pvr, but if you look here:
    http://www.cyberport.com/~tangent/video/reviews/
you'll see a less-than flattering review (they also cover
a whole bunch of hardware and software encoders--
    very interesting read).

My thoughts? 40 and 60 GB hard drives are becomming
cheap now. I already have a wintv card that I picked up
pretty cheap. It's easier to just capture to AVI using
virtualdub or some like program and post process the
files to VCD or SVCD format.

Also, there are real-time software encoders that
work pretty well for mpeg1 (and probably mpeg2
if your machine has the horsepower).

  4. I was checking this one out as well, but was informed that the video quality didn't compare to the Dazzle DVC II card. Although the DVC2 doesn't come with PVR timer program, there is a freeware 3rd party one that works just fine.

I don't personally know what the WinTV PVR quality is like, I have spoken to someone on the net that said that he compared them both and the DVC2 was far better. However, it is around $249 for the DVC2 by mail order, whereas you can get the WinTV PVR for around $159 by mail order (try pricewatch.com).

  6. Hi,

I have had a WinTV-PVR for about a year now.. I record Star Trek Voyager 7 times a week...

I record them as Mpeg-2... I then take the 1 hour clip and and chop them into 6 clips using TMPGENC, and then burn them using NERO...

I LOVE the wintv-pvr... Before I got it, I was recording AVI and then converting to Mpeg-2, it takes forever!!! If you dont want to take up that much computer time, this is the card for you...

The quality is awsome!!! It looks perfect on a regular tv, and then looks OK, not that great but ok on our 61inch TV!!!

I used to have a audio sync problem, but they released an update, and now it is perfect!!!

If you have any more questions or want me to make some test files to send you, e-mail me at emailsallyryan@aol.com
