  1. Firstly, I am using a Pixelview BT8x8 TV capture card using either HuffYUV or MJPEG compression and VirtualDub for capturing. Now, I'd like to know how the heck I'm supposed to edit these .avi's, if not join separate ones together.

My aim is simply to delete unwanted TV ads and/or join up similarly captured .avi's together (much like when you watch one those ripped "South Park" .rm episodes where all the ads are cut out, same thing). However, all I'm able to do atm is either encode the entire .avi with all the TV ads intact or only encode each set of start/end frames which ends up with multiple .mpg-parts of a single program. If I can edit these .avi's with a succession of AVISynth line commands (or with any other utility for that matter) then I'd really like to know how this can be accomplished effectively.

I've heard of the many utilities such as AVISynth, Frameserving, VFAPI etc as well as the various editors like Ulead Studio / Adobe Premiere, but I for one am not well versed in any of these - either because I don't fully understand the instructions given, or I cannot get the info I really need from the 3rd-party how-to guides available on the Net.

I don't want to do anything fancy like SFX or fades/wipes with my library of VHSs ... all I need from these proggy's is straight frame-to-frame editing and joining without any degradation of the original compression protocol. There must be a way to just select which start/end frames I want to keep and then have them joined with other selected start/end frames to ultimately make one final (seamless) video production.

I'm sure that many other people out there would like to know how to do this undemanding procedure without sacrificing quality in the process.

    Many thanks for anyone's help.

  2. Just use Virtual Dub's excellent editor to remove commercials.
